A Food Speakers’ Corner in May gave us the opportunity to discover Cosucra, one of the portfolio’s guiding companies. Cosucra offers innovative food ingredients based on two natural raw materials, chicory and peas. During the visit, two of our researchers were able to present their theses.
For our first corporate Food Speakers’ Corner, we were lucky enough to visit Cedric De Taeye’s chocolate factory! We were able to learn more about its history and how a chocolate factory works. Of course, we took the opportunity to taste his excellent chocolate and stock up!
Twice a month, Food Speakers’ Corners are organised by the coordination unit for PhD students and young researchers involved in the FoodWal portfolio. These events enable researchers to discuss the obstacles they encounter, visit laboratories or companies and take part in various events. A cohesive community of researchers conscious of the issues and challenges facing Wallonia’s agri-food businesses is gradually emerging.
For the last Food Speakers’ Corners of the year, our PhD students discovered a non-food economic sector in which the art of handling volatile organic compounds is just as important: perfumery. The aromatic profile of the finished product is a key criterion for consumers when choosing a perfume or a fermented drink! An end-of-year visit to the Guy Delforge perfumery was organised to round off 2023 on a high note.
